The church is a divine institution appointed by God to show forth and declare Him to the world.  The called out people, the church, Christians are to shine the light of God’s love through Jesus Christ, the only begotten Son of God.

How?  There are three distinct works of the church that are to be done.  They are edification, benevolent works, and evangelism.  Many congregations do well at ensuring that the flock is fed or edified, many also do a good job of helping those in need both inside and outside of the body.

Some congregations struggle with spreading the word of God.  This year the eldership here at Arnold has set in motion a plan to put more emphasis on this aspect of the work of the church.  Each member is encouraged to be a part of an evangelistic outreach.  This is not a program, but the desire is to effectively have each member do what all Christians should do.

That is, to teach and proclaim Christ until He returns.   Make disciples, who in turn are added to the church as they obey the gospel being baptized for the remission of their sins, and then continue  to  teach  them  how  toteaching others and the cycle continuing.

After all, that is the command that we have been given in Matthew 28:18-20 which says:  And Jesus came up and spoke to them, saying, “All authority has been given to Me in heaven and on earth.  “Go therefore and make disciples of all the nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father and the Son and the Holy Spirit, teaching them to observe all that I commanded you; and lo, I am with you always, even to the end of the age.”

This writer hopes that this verse is very familiar to you.  But, more importantly, that all Christians would make  a  daily  choice to put it into practice.  There are many ways and means that one can “Go therefore”.  Take advantage of all the things that you can do.

Materials to assist you are in the foyer of the building at Arnold.  These are not the only things that you can do, but certainly are there for this purpose.  Seek out those of our number who have made this a priority and ask them for advice.

The important thing is to do what Jesus says and be an evangelistic person, be a Christian.  Here are some key things to do:

  1. Pray for an opportunity to present itself. (Pray with the intention of seizing the ones that will come)
  2. Help with the card writing on Sunday evenings.
  3. Invite someone to services.
  4. Talk about God/Christ at any and every opportunity, which may lead to a bible study.
  5. Make a list of known family and friends that you want to convert.
  6. Study, Study, and Study some more.

In January, brother Rob Whitacre came and held an evangelism seminar and left some materials for us to use in our efforts.  One of the things he left was a DVD of the seminar.  If you were unable to attend, please take one and view it.  It will be most helpful to you as you get started.

Thank you to all that have begun doing this.  May all of us embrace this most vital work of the church.  Be the soul seeking soldier that King Jesus Christ commands us to be.
