Justice means different things to different people. The US court system will issue sentences based on a great number of factors. Offenders receive a different length of sentence based on the crime committed, the person, and their history, and often the defense that is presented.
You know that phrase, don’t you? Although today it would be more like a dollar instead of a nickel. Granted a nickel doesn’t buy much these days, so I can understand the increase in money. In my day a nickel could buy several things. I remember when a returned coke bottle would be worth a nickel. We would scour the neighborhood and fields to find the bottles that people would throw out, a few of those and we had some money. I also remember when I was so young that my older sisters convinced me that I should trade them my dimes for their nickels because the nickel was bigger – and I did!!

James 4:13-15 says, “13Come now, you who say, ‘Today or tomorrow we will go to such and such a city, and spend a year there and engage in business and make a profit.’ 14Yet you do not know what your life will be like tomorrow. You are just a vapor that appears for a little while and then vanishes away. 15Instead, you ought to say, ‘If the Lord wills, we will live and also do this or that.’”
