Special Speaker Series:
Our Special Speaker Series (or Gospel Meetings) are held twice each year. During the month of May we invite a guest speaker to come and present a series of lessons from Sunday-Wednesday to spiritually uplift the congregation. In the month of September we have a speaker come in to deliver a series of lessons that span Friday through Sunday. Every third year, however, we are privileged to host the St. Louis Area Wide Lectureship the third Thursday-Saturday of September. We will host it next in 2015.
This Spring we had Dan Wheeler, and look forward to having Scott Cain in the Fall.
Every year in the month of June the congregation gathers at Ferd B. Lang park here in Arnold for a day of food, fun, and fellowship. We enjoy a day of games, a pot-luck style meal, and no picnic would be complete with out a tournament of “washers.”
The Arnold church of Christ engages in at least two campaigns each year. The campaigns are designed to promoted spiritual growth and zeal for the cause of Christ in both the campaigner and the congregation which is being helped. The teens have been conducting campaigns, helping congregations conduct Vacation Bible Schools and benevolence work since the mid-1970’s. The adult campaign was started in 2009 and serves to help a local congregation evangelize in conjunction with Gospel Meetings.
The O.A.K.S. (or Older Adult Kamping Social) is a twice yearly outing for some of our senior saints. Motor homes and campers are taken to Washington and Sam A. Baker State Parks where fellowship and much food is enjoyed during the week. The highlight is a fish fry to which anyone is invited.
Every year the men of the congregation travel to Rend Lake (Waynefitzgeral State Park) in Illinois to participate in ManCation. This a campout for all the men of the congregation to sit by the lake relax and grow closer together in Christian Fellowship.
Every year during the last week of June our youth travel to SE Missouri to the Bootheel Youth Camp. The camp is open for children 3rd-12th grade. Many Bible classes and devotional periods are organized to promote spiritual growth. Other activities and games are provided so that our children can grow closer together and closer to God. We are thankful for the many adult councilors who take part to make sure that camp is a success every year!
The first Saturday of October we take a trip across the river to Eckert’s Orchard in Milstadt, IL. We have a great day of applle and pumpkin picking. There are many games, rides, and attractions for everyone to be involved in. The favorite, by far, is the “pumpkin chunker.” We always conclude with a bonfire devotional and hot dog roast.
Each year the Arnold congregation engages in several retreats. In March our Ladies travel to Festus for a Friday and Saturday retreat that seeks to encourage the woman of the congregation to be godly examples. In November each year the men gather for the “STRONG Men’s Weekend.” This is an opportunity for the men to study God’s word and be encouraged as the seek to walk in the light. Every fall the teens retreat to BYC or another location to be spiritual edified and strengthen.
Our Youth Rally is generally held the first Friday and Saturday of August each year. Teens from around the area are invited to come and take part in this two day spiritual experience. Classes are taught, break-out sessions are held, and activities are encouraged. Each year we feature a different speaker to edify our youth.
Vacation Bible School:
Every year we have a Vacation Bible School for all ages. VBS is not just for young ones, and we encourage our adults to be a part of our adult classes. Each year we offer a new theme and classes for the spiritual benefit and growth of all who participate. Our teachers work long and hard to provide the best environment for all those involved and we are thankful for their service for this great event.
